species hunt

Hi all

just come back from a very blustery species comp sick.gif

adam and I started off in xchurch harbour for the mullet and bass but theses were playing hard to get so we headed out to sea fishless after half hour of trying mad.gif

we were met by a pretty angry sea comeing over the ledge but BW handled it very well, If i was on tara I would have turned back!

So the fishing started and the mackrel were soon flapping in the fish bucket biggrin.gif

After ancoring I had a ray first cast wich was about the best fish of the comp for me, and we seemed to scratch about for the rest of the day but I did manage a fair score in the end.

The final tally was..........

4 mackrel

4 bream

4 wrasse

4 dogs

3 mullet

1 smoothhound

1 ray

I think that works out to 112 points biggrin.gif ... Charlie can you book these in?

Thanks

James

Similar story weather wise from Poole.

Went out on Overdraft which is a lovely boat and tried Swanage, Ballard, Training bank and the harbour.

Fishing wasn't great: 1 dog, 1 pout, and 4 Wrasse- couldn't even get a full house on the Dogs, sad but true- Kim did better but no where near James's tally.

Really enjoyed the day, many thanks Kim.

Tide looks good for Bassing at the IOW next week

Correct, 71 for me. Charlie, - I have emailed you my results.

Tough day. Really struggled for the mullet - they seem very cagey this year???

Out at sea was only a little better - the bonus fish really never showed, but we kept at it and managed to bag max points on the 'easy' species.

Not a nice day though! - we are due a nice calm spell again!

This was the worst sea Ive had BW in so far...at the end of the day we were facing into 10' breaking rollers coming over the Beer Pans, she just took them in her stride! - I just kept keep getting more impressed with her! biggrin.gif

I think I will struggle to get out next weekend, esp. Sat, and sun will probably be a family and friends day on the boat.

I was crewing for Paule D on Neo. We went out from Lymington in the full knowlege that the weather could be worse. And we were right, it got worse! biggrin.gif

Mind you Neo proved what a steady little craft she is and as I sheltered in the cuddy Paul got soaked. laugh.giflaugh.gif

Fishing wise it was rather poor I got the complete set of LSD's like plaster ducks on the wall five of them going from about 1lb down to 10oz.

When we returned to the slip we found that most of the other fishing boats had also returned due to the wind and rising sea state.

We also discovered that 5 doggies was not bad for the day at that venue. Most had drawn a blank or only had one or two LSD's.

Adam,

You could be dead right. The photographer on the quay was looking detrminaedly for something to photograph. ( I will leave Mike to tell you my response to his question "Have you anything worth photographing smile.gif " ).

My score for the day is Nil points. My first ever blank. ( The one doggie let go of the squid before I could get him in the boat ! ).

Good news is I know the boat can keep up with a Raider in a rough sea smile.gif

Splash-Out followed Blue Warrior out across the Ledge with young Robert as the sole crew. Big John chickend out the night before... unsure.gif

Stoped at the bream mark and immediately picked up 4 bream, 4 ballan wrasse,

4 pout and a bonus strap conger. biggrin.gif Robert started getting an iffy stomach so I headed back in and fished just off Hengistbury Groyne and picked up a cockcoo wrasse (doesn't count as another species).

It was still a bit choppy at the Groyne so nipped across to Barton-on-Sea and anchored off the beach. The only bite I had turned out to be a Silver Eel.

Charlie, Silver Eels are not on the list, so do they count??

Robert still wasn't too well, but we had to wait it out until there was enough water to get back up the river. Started back in 2 hrs after LW and only just managed to get up the river. Anchored up and fished for Mullet. Got two on the spinner and one on a ledger. Lost a bloddy good one!!

So final tally was:

4 bream

4 wrasse

4 pout

1 conger

3 mullet

1 silver eel (not counted)

I make that 77 points.

Young Robert blanked, despite trying hard, but his stomach just wasn't up to it. sick.gif

Maverick went out of Poole with myself and Dean aboard. Bob H thought better of it and spent the day with Wendy. I was getting to the point at one stage where I thought I might just as well stayed home with Veronica. The weather was not to kind, we were being thrown all over the place. Any ways Dean and I plodded on and tried many venues including swanage bay, Peveril, Durslston Bay, Durlston Head, Swanage pierish, Ballard, The end of hook sands and finally brownsea (or should it have been bouncy) castle.

Struggled all day but I ended up with a final tally of

4 mackerel

3 pollock

4 wrasse

1 Plaice

Dean will post his later but not quite as many as me

Enjoyed the day but looking forward to an improvemnt in the weather

Nice to see some decent results considering the windy weather.

After a very busy weekend socialising with a mate who is emigrating to New Zealand tomorrow and another mates 50th birthday Party on Sat, we were running late when Sam announced that he was to tired and went back to bed.

Although Daniel and I were tired we decided to give it a go, a few mackeral in swanage bay saw us anchoring one of the banks, unfortunatly the combination of to much wind, to much party food and not enough sleep got to Dan very quickly and he was soon feeling very ill.

We moved inshore and to several marks but only managed wrasse and more wrasse.

Two bad results on the trot has made it very hard for me this year in this comp. but the boys will still be keen to try harder on the next one.

Can I remind you all that I have to send the results to the BFM within 7 days and I must have 12 entry's so even if your day was as bad as mine let me know how you got on.

Hi lads..............well, the scores are in from "Whistler", I'm afraid it was a bad day for us too!!!

I had: 4 Pollack, 4 Wrasse, 4LSD, and 4 Mackeral, Pet Snr had the same as me, bar 2 mackeral, but managed 2 Bream, one falling to a 5/0 hook, who's shank was lomger than the pesky little nipper!!!!

Great fun all the same.

Have you all emailed you totals to charlie either on the correct form or via the report your catch link in the mebers section on the main site? It saves Charlie having to sort through all the postings

Cheers

As Martin says please submit your catches for the Club Species comps in the normal way on the score sheets

I have not got time at work or home to go through all the posts to see what has been caught. and then fill in all the score sheets.

and my PC at home is on dial up so I am paying to surf the net while looking for what you have caught.

I will not be responsible for any that are missed if the correct score sheets are not used.

Hi Bob

At last evenings meeting it was agreed to add the silver eel to the list of species and allocate them 2 points

That takes your score to 89 and second on the day biggrin.gif

Well done for scratching out so many points on a day when the weather was bad and Robert was not well.
