Ok, im a tad confused. Im looking for a cheap GPS, just to store a few marks, but what is it I need? Is a gps and plotter the same? do i need maps for a gps? For the kind of fishing i plan on, i just want to store a few marks along the ledge aswel as xray and one or two more by southbourne. I just need something very basic, 2nd hand would be better to cut the cost down. Whats the cheapest there is that will do what I want?

Thanks

Dan

GPS shows your coordinates and your tracks, but no land or sea or coastal features. A plotter is similar to a gps except it has a map/chart over it, so you know where you are in relations to say Lymington.

If you haven't got a fishfinder, you can get a combine unit with gps, works out cheaper but the trade off is you get less detail/info if you want both working at the same time.

Dan,

If you decide on a handheld GPS to store marks in, I have just the thing for you !

I have a Garmin GPS12 which I was about to put on e-bay.

However, I would recommend getting a fixed unit, since a handheld is all very well but eats batteries and you will wish you had the larger screen of a fixed unit.
