A spate of illegal fishing in Poole Harbour, Dorset has prompted the Environment Agency to issue a warning to anyone thinking of dodging the law.

Fishing is not permitted in the River Frome and in the River Piddle westwards of the Western end of Poole Harbour (other than by licensed rod and line).

White posts visibly mark the Western end of Poole Harbour. To the North, the post is sited on Buck

I always thought we don't need a rod licence around tidal water if we are only targeting saltwater species. However, from the above, the EA seem to have started to mark what they consider to be the start/end of a river whether it is in tidal range or not. Am I correct? sad.gif

Basically the Piddle and Frome will be 'owned' waters, either by private or club owners. You have to draw a line somewhere, and the tidal influence makes no difference- clay pool in xchurch is a good example of this.

Yes, they are trying to stop illegal fish removal, ie Sea Trout etc, but more importantly, someone is paying to fish / own the water, so people encrouching and fishing illegally are not welcome.

Anyway - since when has using nets become 'fishing'!!!! dry.gif
