Wedger Posted July 30, 2005 Report Share Posted July 30, 2005 WHAT not a chance The upshot is that we would have lost stocking support for angling waters where indigenous populations of game fish spawn. Were it not for the availability of triploids that cannot interbreed with wild fish. You now have the best of both worlds where you can continue to stock and fish, game fish rivers, and allow the indigenous, fully adapted fish to continue reproducing without dilution from farmed strains. If properly managed, these waters would then still offer traditional angling opportunity and rod pressure and the choice of taking the odd fish as the sport has always offered, and releasing the wild fish. The alternative would be no stocking, compulsory catch and release for some waters closure of some waters and reduced availability on almost all waters.
