The plan is for a 5am start, launching from Lymington, the question is, how do i fish the solent and what will I expect to catch? Im not planning on going for the smoothies, just want a few bites drifting very close in around the mud flats out to the west from Lymington. Any hotspots? Was going to just fish light with rag on a flowing trace. What species will be inhabiting close in?

Dan, close in, along the foreshore west of Lymo, you can expect schoolies, schoolies, and schoolies, maybe an odd flattie, either a sole, flounder or lost plaice. You used to get the odd ray there, but my money would be on bass, with the chance of a better fish in tide.

With rag, you have the chance of a stingray, a 34lber was caught close in last week by an eight year old fishing on his grandads boat, so they are still about.

Tight lines, will watch the catch reports with interest.
