charlieannear
This might be a tenuous one to go under the Conservation heading- but the natural processes that cause beach erosion, created Poole Bay in the first place, and create many of the fish holding features on the sea bed. We know what can happen when the natural processes are affected, whether by human interference or by unusual weather, and the situation at Mudeford is a good example. When I was at school over 20 years ago, it had already been proven that groynes don't stop longshore drift, or beach erosion, but maybe that's not the case any more... The problem with the landslides on the cliffs is related to poor drainage/too much water at the top of the cliffs, rather than wave action at the bottom. Well, someone must think it's a good way of spending money, because it looks like more groynes may be on the cards: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-dorset-31821865 Mal Thomas
