Take a Friend Fishing for free this Christmas!

Christmas is a fantastic time of year to get outdoors and enjoy some time next to the water with a friend or family member. Anglers with a fishing licence can get a FREE one-day fishing licence worth £6 from the Environment Agency to take someone they know fishing from 17th December to 2nd January. The Take a Friend Fishing campaign is a partnership between the Angling Trust, Environment Agency and Angling Trades Association.

 
 
 

Angling Trust message to ministers: Keep us fishing!

‘Keep us fishing’ is the Christmas message to Government ministers from the Angling Trust following the refusal of the Health Secretary Sajid Javid to rule out further Covid restrictions in England or even a fourth lockdown. Angling Trust CEO Jamie Cook has written to senior members of the Government to remind them of how angling continued successfully and safely through the last two lockdowns and to press for similar treatment should new restrictions be introduced.

Aire and Calder barge to continue despite fish kills

A commercial barge is being allowed to continue to operate through the Knottingley section of the Aire and Calder Navigation in West Yorkshire despite the Canal and Rivers Trust admitting it is responsible for killing fish. In an email to the Angling Trust, the CRT said they are investigating contributing factors which will not be complete until the end of February. The Angling Trust has called for the commercial operation to be halted and is seeking an urgent meeting with CRT.

Specimen Sea Fish Awards Scheme launches

The popular Specimen Sea Fish Awards Scheme, run by the Angling Trust and supported by Glasgow Angling Centre, has launched for Angling Trust members and members of its Affiliated Clubs. With monthly and end-of-year prizes to be won, the competition is divided into two sections for fish caught from boats or from the shore.

Two record fish make British sea angling history

Two sea fish, accepted by the British Record Fish Committee, have made British angling history. The two-banded sea bream - one caught from a boat out of Padstow, Cornwall and the other from the shore on the Channel Island of Sark - are the first of their species to be landed by anglers in British waters.

Team England Shore Team applications extended

Sea match anglers wishing to be considered for Team England Shore squads for the World and Home championships now have more time to submit their applications. The Angling Trust is pleased to announce that the deadline for applications has been extended until Friday, 14th January, 2022.
