  • 1 month later...

The weather seems to be swinging all over the damn place.

What a bloody pain that is.

Has anyone else been thinking of using Weymouth/Portland as an alternative if it stays Northerly?

I may struggle to make alternative dates for Alderney.

A pain indeed Charlie, just waiting and watching at present. If it's a no good I'll try and do something else depending on wind direction.

I've got the reserve dates booked as holiday so I could do those if needed.

I'm doing Portland at the end of the month so really would prefer not to do it now however?

Most sites are giving it doable except for Predict Wind which is currently saying Fridays no good but the rest of the weekend ok.  I will call my crew on Weds eve to decide when we're going

Watching with great hope, shall I go to Lidl for the special reserve port now or wait? I don't want to fork out over £5 a bottle if it won't get used in Alderney as it should only be consumed at ultra-special events.

What have I done to get such a caring and special crew. Lol

So it's looking like a go on Friday currently 😀

Any current news on the fishing out there?

I know there have been a decent number of pollock and a few cod off the wrecks (well some of them)

Hi All

Just made a quick call to Mainbrayce Chandlers

01481 822772       07781 415420

They are happy to do our usual deals for the summer, he asked that we Introduce ourselves before fueling.

Fuel will be at the Fishing boat rate and the water taxi at £1.00 per trip per head, Duty Free available through their office. ETC

They Close at 1800 on Friday and open at 0800 on Saturday for boats wanting fuel.

For future trips they now have petrol available at a pump, should any of the outboard powered boats want to join the fun.

Braye Tides are

10th 1130 HW        1800 LW         2346 HW

11th                          0633 LW        1227 HW       1901 LW

12th                          0744 LW        1345 HW        20.23 LW

13th                          0916 LW

Bound to get windier now. LOL

Hi again

I have just called our best fishing contact on the Island, he sounded a bit unsure regarding the weather forecast.

He tells me that they are getting some fish on the usual spots. I Forgot to ask how the bait situation was, but if they are getting fish they must be getting bait.

Hopefully we will see him for a beer at the weekend.

Evening, JV is down for this trip albeit only the 2 skippers as no crew available.

As it stands I’d want a better forecast to go - it’s marginal at best for a 3 day trip - as usual if it improves its game

on if it falls away it gets pretty snotty...

The current JV plan is to head Portland way for wrecking and Shambles - sat and sun.

The reports ive seen are mixed on the other side.... the May water has also started and has dropped the wrecking off somewhat if you can’t find clear water.

That's our backup plan Adam

I may choose Weymouth though as its closer for crew to find digs and easier to get fuel and to the pubs and restaurants,

All down to weather mate

Just a sentence from an email received from Mark at Alderney Angling today.

'Been a few flatties about, last set of small tides I had 30 followed by a day of 17'.

Reasonably optimistic.

Terry.
