A mackeral at last

Well and a few more fish.

With the snotty F5/6 NE wind forecast to ease off as the day wore on, we started the day off up the Solent fishing for hounds. We had 4 bites and one hound, first of the year, about 7-8lb.

A quick stop at Sconce, where we caught our first mackeral of the year (mid-June, for goodness sake)

Next off to The Bridge for a spot of softy bumping, result one bass about 2lb then off to The Ledge for some breaming, result a bream about 1.5lb first chuck, which broke the rod ... We had another about 2.5lb and few bits and pieces but otherwise fairly slow.

Nice to be out tho'

Well done on the hound and bass!

We fished the inshore banks yesterday, and the early wind against tide, and swell later made it tricky standing. The number of charter boats there confirmed it was worse further out, beyond the lee of St. Catherines.

Found the fishing poor still, with one wrasse, a single whiting, a small dab, one doggy, but a bucketload of smallish mackerel to tiny feathers. They're still feeding on plankton - the small fry prey have been impacted by the cold spring I suspect.

Poole Bay and Harbour seems to have loads of rotting dark brown weed clogging everything up, and it was hard going.

The wind shifted firmly SE after noon, and the swell increased to over 4'...so we left before it got worse.

Mike
