Warrior 165 deck

Hi

When I had a 165 it was a Mk2 model made in 2002.

I bought it second hand and had the boat for approx 3 years and I can't say that I recall the floor being bumpy. I did however have matting over the floor it that would have made any differance.

I had problems with the engine but that is another issue.

Mine is a 2001 model and although the floor is dimpled (giving good foothold) Iwouldn't call it 'lumpy'. I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed with your newer model; for it's size I find mine well made and undoubtedly 'fit for purpose'. Nothing has gone wrong or broken on it, it handles rough water reassuringly and, with a few toys fitted, provides a good inshore fishing platform.

I am content. smile.gif

Mine is a 2005 model, which I bought second hand in 2007.

I have no quality issues with mine at all. ( yes it does tend to porpoise a little at 30mph ) but I don't get up to that speed very often due to lumpy water.

I have spoken to Warrior a few times, once for a switch panel. The other times for advice. In every case, they have been fantastic.

I am surprised to hear that you are having problems. ? ? ? ?

Have you contacted Warrior about your problem? I've only ever heard good reports about their after care.

When I collected mine, they couldn't have been more friendly, we chatted for a long time over a cup of coffee.

JUST A FOLLOW UP ON MY LUMPY FLOOR, THERE ARE TWO DEFFINATE RIDGES THAT BECOME MORE AND MORE PRONOUNCED OVER THE LAST YEAR, I LOOKED AT 27 WARRIOR BOATS OF VARIOUS AGES AND FOUND THE SAME RIDGES, TOLD THEY ARE POSSIBLY THE STRINGERS RUNNING ACROSS THE BOAT. COULD NOT LIVE WITH THIS SO EMPLOYED LOCAL SPECIALIST TO REMOVE FLOOR AND REPORT. BELIEVE THE DECK WAS ONE SHEET OF MARINE PLY, WRONG OFFCUT PIECES OF SHUTTERING PLY HAD BEEN USED WITH PACKERS, BELIEVED THE UNDERSIDE TO HAVE BEEN FIBRE GLASSED AND PROTECTED, WRONG WATER INGRESS AND FUNGUS GROWTH APPARENT ON UNDERSIDE, ASKED THE SPECIALIST ABOUT THE STRINGERS?, WHAT STRINGERS !, JUST PACKING PIECES. MORE TO COME AS I HAVE NOW REQUESTED A FULL STRUCTUAL ENGINEERS REPORT ON THE 'HARD WOOD' KEEL OR LACK OF.THE PROBLEM IS MOST BOATERS ARE DRAWN INTO THE SALES BLURB AND BELIEVE THEY ARE BUYING THE BEST ETC ETC, A FRIEND OF MINE WITH A 3 YEAR OLD WARRIOR AS ASKED THAT I DO NOT EXPOSE SUCH PROBLEMS, "IT MAY HAVE AN IMPACT ON HIS 2nd HAND VALUE", I HAVE PHOTO,S WHICH I'LL TRY TO ATTACH, MORE TO COME, BUYERS BE AWARE

GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS AND I.LL SEND YOU THE PHOTOS, MY WARRANTY IS UP AND NO RECOURSE TO WARRIOR, AS I HAVE STATED BEFORE, I STILL LIKE THE BOAT AND IN ITS CLASS THE BEST AVAILABLE, I HAVE TRIED THE OTHERS, I AM NOT IN ANYWAY LINKED TO ANY BOAT BUILDER OR COMPETITOR OF WARRIOR, AND WHEN MY NEW FLOOR IS COMPLETE I WILL BE A FAR HAPPIER BOATER. WARRIOR WILL GET A FULL REPORT OF MY FINDINGS ETC FULLY CATALOUGE AND PHOTOGRAPHED, WHEN THE EXERCISE IS COMPLETE.

I can see why you are getting annoyed, but no point using caps lock to make your point on here, its Warrior that need to get the message.

That said I am sure our Warrior owners are more than interested.

Ref the Warranty, if the boat has not been made correctly using methods and materials advertised by them I would think that there could be some come back on the builder.

Good luck

Charlie

Thanks for that great white, it is rather strange that 95% of Warrior owners become very defensive when anyone is critical of the build quality. I have owned boats for the last 40 years and for an allround package Warrior 165 still tops the tree for me. However when you read their blurb, expectations can be high. There are without doubt quality issues with the build, I have since owning mine built up a dossier of owners who I meet on away days etc. there are some horror stories out there. I am not interested in "going public" but only wish to advise others of the possible problems they will encounter with a Warrior. I would not be forking out

I really don't think you should mistake a difference of opinion for defensiveness.

You have made comments and criticisms of both your 165 and Warrior Boats Ltd which are very much at odds with many club members' own experience.

I've loved owning my 175 for the last 3 and a half years and been delighted with its quality and overall performance. Whenever I've contacted the company Phil/Paul have invariably been prompt and helpful with their support, as they were the day I collected it from the factory. Would I buy another or recommend Warrior to a close friend? Without hesitation.

Now that's simply a very different view from the one you expressed. It doesn't make either of us defensive, right or wrong.

I agree, and thats what a forum is about, open discussions and opinions, I maybe a little critical when it comes to quality but I work in an industry that has stringent quality controls to ISO9000 etc. As for the 175 you have, the floor is actually built using a completely different process to the 165. It is a shame there is not a Warriors owners forum as airing such a problem on what is a club site forum, may not be a good approach. I run a 75 etec which I consider the best engine on the market, however I am also aware of the many pitfalls of Etecs as they regularly appear on the etec owners forum, I beleive it a good thing to be aware of the bad points and be able to appreciate the good points. My experience and the current rectification work will become available, along with 4 other owners with very similar problems, I had to take the option to rectify my deck as the actual ridges in the floor become a trip hazard and the section between the ridges very spongy.

I read this with interest only really. I have never owned a warrior.

But having changed decks in previous boats I know what a pain it is.

I would have thought that although your boat is out of Warranty, the builder could be approached regarding the build quality and the materials used.

The use of sterling board for anything on a boat is one cost cutting excercise to far IMHO..

As the boat is now believed to be over 12 years old , I doubt very much that it was sterling board, just plywood with some sort of hidden joint.

I had problems with an engine just out of warranty a year ago, but Volvo supplied parts at a very good discount as a "Good Will" gesture.

If Warrior can offer nothing else, perhaps you could approach them from that angle. materials and gelcoat?

I'm very sorry to hear of your experiences with both your boat and Warrior. I have been enjoying my 165 for 8 years now without a problem. The build quality appears to be superb and it does everything I require of it as an inshore fishing boat both safely and comfortably (mostly!) I would happily swap it for another if the time comes when mine is getting a bit "tired".

I am sure if you approached Warrior with a positive attitude, I'm sure you'd find them very helpful. A product's warranty is normally overidden if it can be proven that it is not 'fit for purpose'.

Good luck.

p.s. This is not defensive, only objective.
