    engines and bits n bobs

I changed the direction that my job was going about 18 months ago and have found myself working virtually non stop. Because of that my boat has gone (I'll get another one day) and i'm moving house so I need to clear out all the other bits Ive been accumulating. i have a suzuki 2.5 hm outboard, was perfect the last time it was used about 2 years ago but obviously you can check for yourself when/if you're interested. a BRAND NEW, never used 1974 Evinrude 9.9HP short shaft outboard. i bought it in a moments madness a couple of years ago and had it serviced by an old engineer in Highcliffe. He was impressed and says its perfect. Ive not even started it since. I have a 7 year old Honda 5hp long shaft which is on the back of my Zegul 380 and old jetski trailer. (Engine hardly used). again probably last used a couple of years ago. http://www.chastheboat.co.uk/zegul_boats.htm I have two life vests Kru XS175n's. One has self inflated the other is still complete. I believe the inflated one just needs a new gas bottle??? full set of navigation lights (for vessel up to 12 met) ..... please dont ask why!! Paper chart Needles to Portland bill (waterproof paper) 2 dog floatation jackets (both large) one red crewsaver, the other no labels Crewsaver XL dry suit good cond (stored indoors). Couple of XL all in one floatation suits, one "mainstream" dark green (so you cant be found), the other "Fladen" bright orange (so you cant be missed). All of the above has been stored outside for a couple of years so will need fumigating/washing before use. PM me with anything you want to know or if you want a look/offer. Graham

    trailer wheel

sorry guys Ive been away. I have the sides still in boxes (3 or 4 boxes about 2ft x 2ft x 18inches, from memory) The support poles (8 I think) and the roof poles (12 i think) all come apart and are about 6ft X 1 1/4 diameter. I have them stood up and they probably take up about 18 inches square at the base. There is a box full of corner brackets (about 2ft square) The top folds down to about the size of a small tent. I only built it once, 2 men took about half an hour or so.I dismantled it on my own in probably the same amount of time. IT IS VERY BIG. This aint no gazebo!!

    trailer wheel

while de-cluttering I have found a brand new 5 stud trailer wheel with new 155/70/12C tyre. May be of use to you trailer types ;-) When I was fixing my boat I purchased a 4M X 8M "GALA TENT". It stood up to the massive storms we had in 2014. The sides and ends were never used and are still boxed up in my loft. The rest was up for about a year. Cost me over £500, make me an offer coz I'll never use it again unless I move somewhere with a huge garden (and find loads of friends). https://www.galatent.co.uk/more_details.asp?itemcode=06507

    small winky

Barry decided to propose to Sandra, but prior to her acceptance Sandra felt she had to confess to her man about her childhood illness. She informed Barry that she suffered a disease that left her breasts at the maturity of a 12 year old. He said that it was OK because he loved her sooo much. However, Barry felt this was also the time for him to open up and admit that he had a deformity too. Barry looked Sandra in the eyes and said, 'I too have a problem. My winky is the same size as an infant and I hope you can deal with that once we are married.' She said, 'Yes, I will marry you and learn to live with your infant size winky.' Sandra and Barry got married and they could not wait for the honeymoon. Barry whisked sandra off to their hotel suite and they started touching, teasing, and holding one another. As sandra put her hands in Barry's pants, she began to scream and ran out of the room! Barry ran after her to find out what was wrong. She said, 'You told me your winky was the size of an infant!' 'Yes, it is said Barry ... 6 pounds, 5 ounces, 14 inches long

    3 Bass bag limit announced

I for one completely agree with this. I have seen many boats come back into Baiter slipway with buckets of bass of all sizes. I know some may be holiday makers and they dont get chance very often but I think the phrase most appropriate is "cutting off the hand that feeds us"......... If we take too many fish, there wont be any left for our grandchildren. .

    Dorset Boat Jumble this Saturday

it wasnt on last year coz the travellers were on the site. Its always nice to look around but as Rob says, theres no receipt given and almost everything ive ever bought as "new" has broken very soon after fitting. If theres anything second hand you need it might be worth a visit but otherwise its only really any good as a rummage around.

    Satellite broadband?? IT question

Satellite broadband is specifically for people in your situation Trev. If you can BB via BT, Virgin, then do it that way. If you are outside of their coverage are then satellite BB is the way to go (although they are presently rolling out 4G, which may help in some cases). If you want to know more (prices etc). I can put people in touch with you. I dont do it myself but have fitted a few dishes for them and the clients have always been very pleased with the results.

    long shaft on short transom

My little boat has a very short transom but my engine has a long shaft. I've used it a few times bolted straight to the transome and it pushes me along ok but seems to lift the nose a lot. Extending the tiller and sitting further forward gets me moving much quicker and to be honest would be absolutely fine for what I do with it ...... BUT ..... Is there any technical issues wth using a long shaft on a short transom? (apart from adding another 6 or 7 inches to my draft) I made a makeshift extension to my transom to lift the engine by the required amount yesterday and gave it a try but it only seemed to add a lot of stress to the transom) Alternatively ..... is anyone out there wanting to part with an 8 / 10 hp short shaft engine?

    Off Swanage

I thought they were all blondes Charlie .... nice fish anyway. One thing I would say tho' ..... The deck can get quite hot, it certainly did today and for that reason I always lay a damp towel on the deck to protect the rays. .

    project ... replacing floor.

well I was full of all these ideas but work, family, dogs and weather put paid to most of them. The bulkhead has remained, a lick of paint and a bit of juggling where the old fuel tanks were and we are ready for the water. ..... Unfortunately, my mate (crew) is moving out of the area in a couple of weeks so it'll probably sit in my yard for the rest of the year growing moss again!

    project ... replacing floor.

well .... my idea of cutting some hatches into the floor of my project has uncovered some pretty grotty stringers. So the floor is coming up and 2 new stringers are to be fitted. Now i'm no chippy so i am thinking of making a template out of hardboard (or cardboard) first then cutting round the template onto some nice marine ply and fibreglassing them into place. 2 questions spring to mind .... 1: can I put these stringers close to the original ones, thereby I dont need to cut all the fibreglass around the old ones (or do they have to go exactly where they are for structural calculations etc). 2: Do i make a small hole in the bottom of each one so any water ingress into one can travel through to the stern so one bilge pump will suffice (the obvious problem here would be if a hole occured in one "chamber" the water would fill the boat up through those same holes) or do I put a bilge pump in each, thus making each chamber completely seperate from each other? I'm basically starting from scratch here so any modifications will be easier done now rather than later.
