Hopefully catch you out there Dave. Not sure if we'll head East or West yet, flip a coin I guess!

    Is Alderney fished out?

Compared with a beam trawler which could be out every day of the week? I’d have thought recreational anglers wouldn’t touch the sides (much like the bass ban).

    Is Alderney fished out?

I’d say nothing much at all to do with bigger and faster boats (this last trip I didn’t see anyone fishing other than club boats and maybe one small Guernsey boat - and that was on a perfect forecast and bank holiday!) and more to do with trawlers. That’s a pure guess though!

Just spoken with them - they are open all weekend from 8am but with the tides he reckons the latest we could get in for fuel on Sunday would be 2pm and the earliest Monday morning 10am.

Charlie, did Mainbrayce give any insight into their opening hours being a bank holiday weekend? Ideally we'd look to fuel up at some point Sunday afternoon/Early monday morning (tide permitting) but what with Sunday being Milk-a-Punch day I'm not sure there will be many sober people on the island!

    That definitely looks promising.

Not a lot of detail on Silver Spray's monthly email which has just gone out but it does say at the top **Spaces left for Alderney in June and July, flattie fishing was good the first trip across this year** Which is promising.

Anyone have any idea what the rules on bass caught in Alderney are with them not being an EU state?

    Bass Regs 2018 - C&R

Presumably if we deep hook one and it unfortunately doesn’t survive we are expected to throw it back dead? I’m not sure how that sits with me really - a real waste.

Most places on the island are quite understanding about postponing and cancellations which happens more often than not but check with wherever you book that they are too. I’ll be staying on board but have stayed in the Simerock before (probably would look to stay somewhere else if I stayed in the island again). Aiming for same dates as Charlie. Crew are living it up in the Braye Beach hotel

Some big (12inch+) wrecking booms like these https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-5-HEAVY-DUTY-WRECKING-Anti-Tangle-Clear-extra-strong-booms-13-long-45-bend/282880204157?hash=item41dcf95d7d:g:kZMAAOSwicpaebPA and some 6inch sidewinders will do you. If you get a pack of the “Cod Squad” and the “Bass Pack” they’re assorted so you’ll get 6 colours to play with https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sidewinder-Sandeel-Lures-Sandeels-Bass-Lures-Cod-Fishing-Lures-6-or-4/221849631045?hash=item33a744b945:m:m6fHjXO1uIW74-RJ0ChJQQA As Martin said - you couldn’t be going with a better skipper. Edit to add - could be worth taking a heavier rod too, 20/30lb for the Tope fishing off speedy rock out there (plus of course if Charlie gets his “conger fever” on the way home)

I think we're looking at any of the first three weekendsof May, whichever has the weather that allows it.
  23. Dear members, Over the course of the next few days I will be upgrading the website to the latest version of the forum software and moving the site to a new server. Unfortunately there's no way to do this without causing some disruption but it's something that needs to be done for a few reasons: 1) We'll be moving to my own server - it's a dedicated machine which isn't shared with any other organisations. This way we have full control and can respond quickly to any problems without having to rely on a third party. 2) Our site currently runs version 3.4 of the forum software, the current version is 4.2.6 - we are at least 10 versions out of date so are long overdue an upgrade from both a security and features point of view. 3) Web hosting costs PBSBAC £160 per year or thereabouts. This is a cost which the club will no longer incur as I'll host the site on a server that I have anyway. This next invoice is due on 20th December so we want to switch before then. The new site is currently live at http://pbsbac.vanderquest.co.uk/- the next step is to change the settings of http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/ so it points at the new site. This is where the disruption will be however those who cannot hold their excitement in are welcome to use the first link while the usual web address is out of action. This could take anywhere from 24 hours to 3 days. It's a slightly different layout that we can fully customise as we go along. The main things that we will have problems with are: 1) Catch reporting. This is a custom created application that may not take too well to being transferred - we'll see! 2) I should be able to transfer across all the most recent posts/topics but some of the images posted between 27th Nov when I began this process and now will likely be lost. Older photos will be fine. Private messages between those dates will also likely be lost. 3) Some of the committee have had problems logging in and their passwords have needed resetting - if you have this issue please email me at oliver@maingay.co.uk and I'll sort it out ASAP for you. We'd welcome any feedback once transferred over - if there's something you don't like or something you find which doesn't work please post a reply here so I can try and get it resolved. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly and see you on the other side! Oli

    Site upgrade and server move

Thanks Paul, I do have a full backup but I think the missing ones are more to do with them not linking up properly as part of the upgrade - posts with missing photos would unfortunately mean manually going through them and linking them all up I think.
  25. Thanks - this is now fixed and the links are at the top of the page. The forum won't allow me to make them part of a post.
