small boat angling. For a membership form click here>
We are a small club established to promote safety at sea and small boat
angling. We have approaching 200 members with over 100 boats. Members keep
their boats on trailers, swinging moorings and pontoon berths. Boat
sizes range from small outboard driven dinghies up to a maximum length
of 35'. The club aims to cater for the needs of sea anglers fishing
from small boats within Club waters that extend from St Catherine's
Point in the East to Portland Bill in the West.
We hold regular club meetings, competitions, social events and an annual
open boat competition usually held during November. Club meetings are
held on the first Thursday of every month at the Parkstone Trades and
Labour Club Ashley Road, Parkstone, Poole, Dorset. For map see link here
We also organise for our members occasional courses.
Some courses recently attended by our members are RYA Powerboat level 2,
RYA first aid, sea survival and VHF.
As well as formal courses there is a great wealth of information (both

 | Slow end to the season |
 | Chilly start from Lymington saw us acting as ice breaker to get out of the marina. Out to The Spoils for 930, baits out and the wait began and continued to be honest for most of the session.
Other than the usual LSD, pout and whiting no bites off bigger stuff until a thornback about 4lb turned up on the last chuck before offsky and more icebraking to get back onto the pontoon.
This really is the end unless of course we get some calm weather in the next couple of weeks to have a crack at the blondes |

 | We managed a Cod and a couple of Whiting fishing between two trawlers yesterday. Not too bad considering our noisy destructive neighbours

 | Whiting aplenty |

 | Cabin Boy dropped the anchor at the western end of the spoils shortly before 10am in a reasonable tide. Straight away the big baits tempted whiting and this persisted with just the occasional LSD. Cuttle made no difference. All whiting were coughing up sprats and I wonder if the cod may have been preoccupied. We moved to the swash as the tide eased and managed ----- more whiting. Another great day afloat with fresh fish to take home too. |

 | Mixed day on The Spoils |

 | Got out there for 9, with a chilly breeze and not a lot happening initially. Then as forecast the wind slowly died away to a flat calm as the day wore on.
To cut a long story short we ended up with a couple of codling, 3 eels, the usual array of pout and LSDs and a whole host of whiting up to about 3lb. Also dropped a few fish, suspect eels but could have been bigger cod.
We stayed until the end of the flood, all in all a nice day on the water, probably the last for the cod. Probably boat out and serviced ready for the start of the plaice season. Although we've had a reasonable cod season I'm really looking forward to getting back to lighter tackle and hopefully some warmer weather. |

 | After a morning cleaning and tidying Sea Dream - Cabin Boy at his most efficient - conditions eased sufficient for us to take to the water. A fruitless hour in Holes Bay and a similar half hour in the main channel was followed by success??? near the castle when Brian brought up a long spined sea scorpion.

A pout was our only other success. (Late ammendment - being truthful I forgot a small pollock and a good brown crab that had a lucky escape.) Another good spell afloat - and we didn't make the boat too dirty either. |

 | Slow day on The Spoils |

 | In the interest of posting real fishing than just the red letter days a short report about yesterday.
Fished from 10-1 at the same spot where we had a good day on Saturday, arrived at slack and quickly caught enough whiting for tea and then not alot else when the tide started to flow. A couple of conger, some dogs and pout and that was it. No big bites that we didn't hit.
There wasn't a lot of tide about (flood was due to run from 10 - 5 and it wasn't a big tide anyway).
Still the sea was nearly flat and it didn't rain and it was nice to get out, something we won't be doing for a week or so looking at the forecasts.

 | 1st trip in over a year |

 | A recent trip out with Jamie, aboard his boat 'Big Wednesday' with his dad joining us aswell saw us heading to Dolphin Sands in a big tide. Dropped the anchor and found ourselves drfting as the pick wouldnt hild. We put more rope out which did the trick. After finally settling in and 2lb of lead used to hold bottom we eventually started to catch a few fish. Jamies dad landed the smallest conger ever about 4-5lb before a few dogs kept us busy. As the tide slacked at high water i dropped down some baited feathers tipped with slivers of macky found the whiting straight away. A few nice ones....and a bumper 4lber graced the boat. Next drop a nice 4lb bass finds the feathers followed soon after by another good bass of 8lb. A few more whiting and pout...and obligatory dogs later found the tide turn and ebb quickly. 2lb of lead now not holding so we headed back to base. All fish returned to fight another day. Great boat and nice winter sunshine in good company. Thanks Jamie & co.

 | A couple of trips off the IoW |

 | Friday saw me on my own fishing for a couple of hours, fairly quiet and ended up with a cod 10lb and a load of decent whiting.
Trip two today with my brother saw a 9 o'clock anchor down in reasonable conditions. Missed a bite within 15 mins, then opened with a 20 ish conger, whilst this was coming up my brother had a tug which resulted in a 13lb cod. Good start.
30 mins later another bite and after a bit of hauling up comes a 15lb cod, better.
30 mins later another take which runs off then nods a bit, I was thinking small cod or big whiting when up pops a bass and not a bad size, 9lb it weighed and in spanking condition, it went back to continue growing.
Finished the day with a fair sprinkling of whiting up to about 3lb.
So a good day was had by all.
And Nigel, all caught on your cuttlefish! |
